IniCha member Eduardo Marquez recently published an article on “Environmental Science and Pollution Research”, a peer-reviewed scientific journal, alongside his supervisor Dr. Raul Martinez and colleagues in the University of Freiburg about the effects of coal-mining on agricultural soils and rice plants in Vietnam. The article, titled “Open-pit coal-mining effects on rice paddy soil composition and metal bioavailability to Oryza sativa L. plants in Cam Pha, northeastern Vietnam”, is now available online and is his first full-article contribution to modern Environmental Science.
Eduardo’s professional career aims at using quantitative geochemical techniques to assess the environmental impacts of industries such as mining in order to create a more socially- responsible industrial sector. His interests also involve social projects and literature.
Be sure to follow Eduardo’s progress as he returns to Mexico in the beginning of next year to continue his mission.
